How to use it

1

Choose volume or weight

Liquids and loose scoops use volume; grams and ounces use weight. Keep them in the same family for an accurate figure.

2

Enter your amount

Type the number you have and pick the unit it's written in. The whole grid recalculates the instant you change either one.

3

Read every equivalent

Your source unit is highlighted; all the others show alongside it, so you never have to run a second calculation.

About kitchen measurements

Recipes travel across borders, and the units rarely travel with them cleanly. A cake from a British site lists grams, an American blog lists cups, and an old family card lists tablespoons that may or may not match today's standard. A quick converter removes the guesswork so a recipe works no matter which measuring set is in your drawer.

Volume is not the same as weight

This tool keeps volume and weight separate on purpose. A cup measures how much space an ingredient fills; a gram measures how heavy it is. A cup of flour and a cup of honey occupy the same volume but weigh very differently, so converting between the two families needs the ingredient's density — which is why serious baking recipes increasingly give weights.

US cups versus metric cups

The cup on this page is the US customary cup of about 237 millilitres. A metric cup is a round 250 millilitres, and an Australian tablespoon holds four teaspoons rather than three. When precision matters, weighing in grams sidesteps all of these regional quirks entirely.

When to reach for a scale

For everyday cooking, spoon and cup measures are perfectly good. For bread, pastry and anything where ratios decide the outcome, a kitchen scale set to grams is the most reliable tool you can own — and this converter helps you turn a volume-based recipe into a weight you can trust.

Common questions

How many teaspoons are in a tablespoon?

Three. One US tablespoon equals exactly 3 teaspoons, or about 14.79 millilitres. A cup holds 16 tablespoons, which is 48 teaspoons.

Can I convert grams to cups here?

Not directly, because that depends on what you're measuring. Grams are weight and cups are volume, and each ingredient has its own density. Use the weight tab for gram-to-ounce conversions and the volume tab for cup-to-millilitre.

Are these US or metric units?

The cup, pint, quart and gallon here are US customary. Millilitres and litres are metric and universal, and grams, kilograms, ounces and pounds behave the same everywhere.

Is it accurate enough for baking?

The conversions use precise factors, so yes. For baking, though, the bigger accuracy gain comes from weighing ingredients in grams rather than scooping them by volume.

Does anything get sent online?

No. Every calculation runs in your browser. There is no upload, no tracking of what you convert, and it keeps working with no connection.

Why does my cup look slightly off from another site?

Different countries define the cup differently — 237 ml in the US, 250 ml as a metric cup. This tool uses the US cup; note which standard your recipe assumes.
